Article Title: A Mixture of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids ω-3 and ω-6 Reduces Melanoma Growth by Inhibiting Inflammatory Mediators in the Murine Tumor Microenvironment
Journal: International Journal of Molecular Sciences
doi: 10.3390/ijms20153765
Figure Legend Snippet: Determination of inflammatory mediators. C57BL/6 mice were coinjected with 10 6 B16F10 apoptotic cells plus a sub-tumorigenic dose of 10 3 B16F10 viable melanoma cells in a subcutaneous tissue. After the coinjection, the mice were treated by gavage during five consecutive days with fish oil rich in omega-3 or soybean oil rich in omega-6 or a mixture of these oils in a ratio of 1:1. After 21 days, the tumors were removed and a homogenate was obtained to evaluate the concentration of LTB 4 ( A ), LTB 5 ( B ), the ratio between LTB 4 and LTB 5 (LTB 4 /LTB 5 ) ( C ), prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2 ) ( D ), prostaglandin E 3 (PGE 3 ) ( E ), and the ratio between PGE 2 and PGE 3 (PGE 2 /PGE 3 ) ( F ) in the tumor microenvironment. All experiments were carried out using groups of five 6–8 week old female mice in, at least, two independent experiments. The risk value α was set at 5% ( p < 0.05). ** p < 0.01, *** p < 0.001.
Techniques Used: Concentration Assay
Figure Legend Snippet: Representative illustration of the main findings of our group. In ( A ), the previous results published by Bachi et al. are presented. In ( B ), the results are shown. Arachidonic acid (AA); –cyclooxygenase (COX); CXC motif chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1) -; interleukin 10 (IL-10); eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA); –lipoxygenase (LOX); leukotriene B 4 (LTB 4 ); leukotriene B 5 (LTB 5 ); –prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2 ); prostaglandin E (PGE ).
